The Rumba

About the dance:

The Rumba is a slow, romantic dance, and is also considered the most sensual of the Latin dances.
Rumba music is in 4/4 time, and generally each step takes up 8 beats, or two bars, of music. The steps are measured in ‘quicks’ which last for 1 beat, and ‘slows’ which last for 2 beats.

Rumba music and dance originated in Africa, and the music used for modern Latin rumba still retains some of the distinctive African rhythmic features, such as the syncopated ‘quick, quick, slow’ patterns throughout.
