The Tango

About the dance:

The Tango originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Ballroom Tango that will be shown on the Discover Dance Combinations Tango DVD draws its inspiration from the Argentine Tango. The dance is full of dramatic and emotional movements, with its contrast of slow walks and sharp stops set against the colourful Latin music.

The Tango is danced to music in 2/4 time. The steps are described as either being ‘slow’ or ‘quick’. A ‘slow’ lasts for one beat and a ‘quick’ is worth half a beat. The general pattern for ‘walks’ in the tango is ‘slow, quick, quick’ which lasts for one bar of music.
